Synopsis
How an artist creates or how is an artist created? Through the animation of the animation and the self-portrait out of the self-portrait!
Self-Portrait is a story about the nature of the artistic creation and the relation between an artist and his work. It is a story of an artist, who, while creating a portrait, realizes that the painted parts of the face – Nose, Eye, Ear, Mouth, Tongue, and Hair – have a mind and soul of their own. Those little beings start walking, jumping, and fighting around, composing and decomposing a big picture. In those movements, mistakes, conflicts, and loves, the author’s character is being created – the animated self-portrait. As a picture, but also as a film itself.
Characters

The Eye
Likes order, beautiful places, romantic walks, structured poetry, and mathematics. Chooses a safer way. Always on time. Hates experiments and uncertainty. Hides emotions and weaknesses. Snobbish.
The Ear
Likes chaos, adventurism, evil secrets, deformations, weird circuses, and unsafe sex. Prank master. Always late. Born winner, taught looser. A fetishist. Completely Egocentric. Deep down inside has a good heart.
The Nose
Likes silence and voyeurism. Very sensible, but confused and clumsy. Looks stupid, but actually not. Follows the inner smell. In his ex-life was a cartoonist. Sometimes hates rationality with no good reason.
The Mouth
Likes doing, not thinking or dreaming. Aggressive. Reckless. Always on the place. Eats a lot. Drinks a lot. Hates manners. Once saved the Tongue from drowning.
The Tongue
Likes extreme sports, rollerblades, swimming, cycling, and bungee. Fast and furious. Unpoetical. Hates limits. Sometimes mad in extremity. Generally responsible.
The Hair
A lot of little dogie-like creatures, full of mindless joy of playing. Children. Always and for ever.
Technique
This films is made in the classical animation technique, using a pencil, graphics tablet, Adobe software, and a lot of personal sadness, madness, happiness, shyness, grief, joy, love, memories, thoughts, regrets, and confusions.
